On March 2004, Barack Obama took the United States by surprise by winning the Democratic primary, making him a rising star in the world of politics. Four years later he went on to win the presidential elections, becoming the 44th President of the United States and the first African American president in history. He was re-elected in 2012 for his second term.
During his two terms, his administration was responsible for several reforms in healthcare and the economy. He also took actions regarding foreign policy, climate change, immigration and LGBT rights. And speaking of foreign policy, Obama was known for his outreach to the Muslim world, promotion of nuclear nonproliferation and also for closing the ties with US allies. For all these, he was awarded the Nobel peace prize in 2009. He left office in January 2017 with a 60% approval rating.
As the President of the United States (what many consider to be the most powerful man in the world), Barack Obama was an example to many, inspiring young leaders and communities across the world. He has always been praised for his speaking and media presence, is also called “the first social media president” after his team successfully used services like Twitter, Facebook or Instagram.
