About the book

Donald Miller's sixth book picks up after the success of his memoir Blue Like Jazz, when his life stalled and he slid into depression, questioning his purpose. Two movie producers then approached him about turning the memoir into a film. Rewriting the events of Blue Like Jazz as a screenplay taught Miller about the elements of story, and he began applying them to his own life, taking on situations that demanded more effort and sacrifice than he was used to. The narrative tracks how he went from sleeping through the day to crossing America by bike, from daydreaming about romance to actually facing love, and from wasting money to starting a nonprofit. It came out in 2009.

Ali Abdaal called it excellent too, if in a different way, in his notes on Storyworthy.
