Methodology

  • Source: The CEO Library database, snapshot of 2026-09-30. The most recent book was added on 2020-04-16.
  • A recommendation is one person recommending one book, with a source (an interview, an article, a post or a book by that person). Counts are of distinct people: 5,044 recommendations, 2,630 books, 1,076 recommenders.
  • Categories are the site's own book categories. Ties are broken by title.
  • Roles (founder, investor and so on) are free text on the site and not consistent enough to compare groups such as tech founders and investors, so this study does not split by role.
  • Books were added to the site between 2017 and 2020; 100% of them before 2021. The data reflects what was collected on the site; it is not a survey of all leaders or of everything they read.
