About the book
Spiritual teacher Byron Katie reads the Diamond Sutra, an ancient Buddhist text newly translated for the book by Stephen Mitchell, through her method of self-inquiry called The Work, which rests on asking four questions about stressful thoughts. Katie holds that sadness, anger, resentment and similar emotions arise when people believe their negative thoughts, and that those thoughts lose their hold once they are questioned, leaving the mind free to turn toward others and oneself with generosity. The Work grew out of a morning in 1986 when, after some ten years of deepening depression and suicidal thoughts, Katie woke in a state of joy. HarperCollins published it in 2017, after her earlier book Loving What Is.
Tony Robbins praised Byron Katie's work and its four questions, which shift how people see their own thoughts and the world, calling it a beautiful guide for anyone seeking freedom from the mind.
