About the book
Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson start from a list of American shortages: too little housing, too few workers, slow progress on clean-energy infrastructure and public projects that arrive late and over budget. They argue that rules meant to fix the problems of the 1970s often block the dense urban building and green energy the present needs. Their proposed abundance agenda asks liberals to admit where government fails and conservatives to admit where it is needed. The book grew out of a January 2022 essay by Thompson in The Atlantic and reached the New York Times best seller list.
Barack Obama included it among his favorite books of the summer and recommended it to progressives seeking a plan to remake government so it serves working people. Lex Fridman called it incredible and recommended it highly when the authors joined his podcast.
