About the book
The novel by Charles Stross is made of nine linked stories that follow three generations of the Macx family as a technological singularity arrives and transforms the world. Manfred Macx, a venture altruist working at the edge of intelligence amplification technology, lives by spreading ideas and putting people in touch, until his pet robot cat picks up something in SETI data. The middle stories follow his daughter Amber, and the last ones center largely on her son Sirhan. Stross first published the stories in Asimov's Science Fiction, inspired by his own work as a programmer during the dot-com boom. It won the Locus Award.
Marc Andreessen called it the best depiction of the Singularity yet put on paper.
