About the book
Technology historian George Dyson looks back at the analog age before the digital revolution and offers an unsettling view of what comes next. Having traced in earlier books how the digital vision of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz came true, he now tells the stories of people who fought for the other side, among them the Native American leader Geronimo and the physicist Leo Szilard. His path through three centuries includes a Russian expedition in the 1700s across the North Pacific and the invention of the vacuum tube, woven together with his own story, which moves between Princeton and the Northwest Coast rainforest. Dyson argues that a new generation of machines is escaping programmable control.
Seth Godin included it again in his winter 2024 book list, noting that it had appeared there before and was worth recommending a second time.

George Dyson’s book Analogia has been on this list before, but it’s worth repeating.
