Mills draws on the story and on his own experience as a Navy SEAL and entrepreneur to set out a framework built on the acronym UPERSIST. Its eight actions include understanding the why, planning in three dimensions, surveying one's habits, improvising to overcome obstacles, seeking expert advice and teaming up with others. Each chapter ends with action steps taken from the parable and from his military and business career. His argument is that success follows a learnable method rather than talent or luck.
