Black Soul

The Bosnian war, a genocide in Europe watched on live, round-the-clock coverage, is the background for Ahmet Rahmanovic's novel, a fiction built on true events. Its story runs between Sarajevo's battle-scarred hills and Chicago, where one man seeks a new purpose while trying to escape the horrors he remembers. The book sets out to give a face to everyone caught up in the Bosnian tragedy, and beneath the plot lies a portrait of Bosnian Muslims and their outlook on justice, dignity and honor. One thread is the bond between a character named Hamza and his father, a love that shows little on the surface. Since its first release in Bosnia it has ranked steadily as a best seller.
