Vinod Khosla is an Indian-American businessman and venture capitalist, known for co-founding Sun Microsystem, one of Silicon Valley’s most prominent companies.

As a teenager, he read about the founding of Intel in a magazine, and this inspired him to pursue a career in technology.

In 1982, Vinod co-founded computer hardware firm Sun Microsystem (SUN name comes from ‘Stanford University Network’ initials), serving as the first chairman for two years. Sun Microsystems sold computers, computer components, softwar, information technology services, and created Java programming language, Solaris OS, and others.

He then quit and became a venture capitalist and worked for 18 years at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

In early 2000, Vinod founded Khosla Ventures, a firm that invests in experimental technologies such as biomedicine and robotics. Khosla Ventures invests from Vinod’s own money. To this moment, the firm has over 50 companies in its portfolio.
