Bloomberg TV journalist Emily Chang examines sexism and the unequal treatment of women in the tech industry of Silicon Valley. She asks how an industry with utopian ideals became so sexist, why its bro culture has lasted, and how women have begun to speak out. Drawing on more than two hundred interviews, most of them conducted for the book, Chang looks inside venture capital firms such as Kleiner Perkins, the subject of Ellen Pao's gender discrimination lawsuit, and Sequoia. She interviews Sheryl Sandberg, Susan Wojcicki and Marissa Mayer, who all started at Google, and tells how women such as Susan Fowler, Niniane Wang and Brianna Wu risked their careers to open a way for others. Portfolio published it in 2018.
