Over close to a decade, New York Times journalist Amy Chozick covered Hillary Clinton's pursuit of the presidency, first on the imploding 2008 campaign and later, assigned to the Hillary beat, through the run-up to the 2016 vote. The assignment took her to 48 states, onto the campaign bus, inside the Brooklyn headquarters, into run-ins with Donald J. Trump and around the globe with Bill Clinton. Her own story runs alongside the reporting: she married, tried to break into the upper ranks of political journalism and asked about freezing her eggs, while weighing the choices Clinton made at similar points. Chozick came to see Clinton as a complex person full of contradictions, shaped by battles that predated her coverage.
Marc Andreessen found it revealing in many ways and highly entertaining, and wondered whether it was the best book yet on the 2016 campaign.
