Across 15 interviews with programmers about their craft, Peter Seibel's 2009 collection serves as a companion to Jessica Livingston's Founders at Work. Seibel concentrates on how they handle the daily work of programming: how they learned it, how they debug, which languages and tools they prefer and how they recognize talent in others, along with their views on literate programming, proofs and reading code. The interviewees include Ken Thompson, inventor of Unix; Donald Knuth, who created TeX; Brendan Eich, the inventor of JavaScript; Simon Peyton Jones, a co-inventor of Haskell; Joe Armstrong, who invented Erlang; Peter Norvig of Google; and Jamie Zawinski. Seibel chose them from a list of 284 names that the public suggested through the book's website.
