About the book
Narrated by Rosemary, a student at the University of California, Davis, Karen Joy Fowler's 2013 novel begins in the middle of her story as she looks back on an Indiana childhood with her parents, her brother Lowell and her sister Fern. Their father is a professor of behavioral psychology, and Fern was taken from the family before Rosemary turned six. As a child she never stopped talking, until something happened and she wrapped herself in silence. The novel won the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction and was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize and the Nebula Award.
Ryan Holiday found it funny and beautifully written, and warned that its heartbreak can bring readers to tears, especially readers with children.

Ryan Holiday (Founder/Brass Check)
In chaotic times, novels are a way to find peace and keep that flicker of vulnerability alive and nurtured. [...] The story is funny, heartbreaking—like literally will make you cry heartbreaking, especially if you have children—and beautifully written.
