After 25 years as a magazine writer, Dan Lyons lost his job at Newsweek at age 50 and decided to join the tech boom he had long covered. HubSpot, a Boston start-up flush with $100 million in venture capital, offered him stock options and the vague title of marketing fellow. His memoir describes an office of Friday parties, Nerf gun fights and a push-up club, where he was twice the age of the average employee, and it sharply critiques the company's management and culture. HubSpot's founders responded to several of his claims, and FBI documents later showed failed attempts by the company to block publication. Hachette published it in 2016, and it became a New York Times bestseller.

The book starts like a punch in the gut, but the story and the reality dose of this book are something that we all need from time to time in the Tech Startup Age. It helped me look beyond the excitement of working on new projects as a goal in itself and keep at least one foot on the ground. Plus the writing is extraordinary!
