About the book
Set in a tree that serves as an apartment house, Astrid Desbordes's illustrated children's story follows Edmond, a shy and somewhat lonely squirrel who is sure his life is exactly as it ought to be. He is content to stir his nut jam, make colorful pompoms and turn in early. One evening, while yet another party is under way in his tree, the scent of his jam draws an unexpected caller to his door: an owl who loves costumes and fun. Edmond agrees to go to the party, and his quiet routine begins to change. Shyness, friendship, individuality and parties are its themes.

Edmond The Moonlit Party illustrated by Marc Boutavant and written by Astrid Desbordes is one of the favourite children story books I love. Marc brings Astrid’s storytelling beautifully to live with the wonderful illustrations. Young designers need to learn the beauty of translating content into illustration and even more simply so for children story books. How do you make it simple enough to understand but interesting enough to keep them absorbed? That’s the true challenge.
