About the book
Joshua Fields Millburn's memoir traces how a suit-wearing, upwardly mobile man in his twenties came to give up the life he had built. In a single month he lost both his mother and his marriage, and the double blow led him to question every part of that life. He then came across minimalism by accident. Over the following four years he got rid of most of his possessions, paid off a heavy load of debt and left a six-figure career, looking for something more substantial than consumption and the broken American Dream. His best friend Ryan Nicodemus breaks into the story with his own asides.
Cal Newport praised it as a more literary treatment of the move to simplicity than the how-to guides that usually cover the subject.

Cal Newport (Author)
Josh Millburn, of The Minimalists fame, just published a memoir about his transition to simplicity: Everything that Remains. I found it compelling — a more literary look at a world often confined to the how-to genre.
