About the book
Set between New Orleans and the Texas coast, Nic Pizzolatto's first novel follows Roy Cady, known to his boss's crew as Big Country. On the day Roy is told he has lung cancer, he senses that his boss, a loan shark who runs a bar, wants him dead, and a routine job turns out to be a trap that Roy survives. Before he flees, he finds a young woman named Rocky in the apartment and takes her along. With Rocky and her young sister, he hides among the country-western bars and run-down hotels of Galveston. Pizzolatto also created the HBO crime series True Detective.

Ryan Holiday (Founder/Brass Check)
This a novel from the writer of True Detective (from before he was the guy from True Detective). Guess what? It's really really good. It's a dark noir story (surprise!) but it's got a great character and great lines...even a touching ending. Also, and I know this is pretty controversial, but I think the second season of True Detective was pretty damn good.
