GETAbout the book
In the early 1960s the Ford Motor Company was falling behind, and A. J. Baime tells how Henry Ford II, who had taken over his grandfather's company with little business experience, set out to shake it up by racing in Europe. With Lee Iacocca and Carroll Shelby, a former racing champion turned engineer, Ford aimed to create and race a car able to defeat Ferrari's at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a feat no American car had achieved. Baime sets this against Enzo Ferrari's command of European racing, where so many drivers died in his cars that he was called the Assassin. The same rivalry is the subject of the film Ford v Ferrari.
