About the book
Moist von Lipwig, a condemned con artist, expects to die on the gallows in Ankh-Morpork, a city-state on Discworld, but Lord Vetinari, the city's ruler, offers him a government job as Postmaster instead. The Post Office has been out of action for decades, its building clogged with mountains of undelivered mail that Moist could swear is talking to him. Terry Pratchett's novel is the 33rd in the Discworld series and the first to feature Moist. Unlike most Discworld novels it is divided into chapters, each opening with a synopsis in the manner of some Victorian novels. It was shortlisted for the Nebula and Locus Awards, and Pratchett withdrew it from Hugo consideration.
Brandon Sanderson said Going Postal was, at the time, his favorite Pratchett book.
