About the book
Christopher Hitchens's memoir follows a life of apparent contradictions: citizen of both Britain and the United States, socialist opponent of the Vietnam War and supporter of the war in Iraq, foreign correspondent in dangerous places and famous bon vivant. A fervent atheist raised as a Christian, he learned of his mother's Jewish heritage only after her suicide. Reviewers picked up anecdotes from the book, including one about Bill Clinton, his contemporary at Oxford, and marijuana. Hitchens said the book was unusually hard to write, and his manuscript ran to twice the length of the published version. It came out in 2010 and earned a nomination for a National Book Critics Circle Award.
Jesper Bylund, co-founder of BlankPage, picked it up expecting to be blown away, calling Hitchens a spectacular author.

I’m currently reading Hitch 22 by the late, and amazing, Christopher Hitchens. And I’m expecting to be blown away, because he was a spectacular author. But I have no idea how. Not sure what the book is really about. He’s just that good.
