About the book
Part memoir and part rant, Caitlin Moran's How to Be a Woman follows the British writer's life from her teens to her mid-thirties alongside her views on feminism. Moran wants to make feminism approachable, arguing that women should see feminists as advocates for true equality rather than as man-haters, and she tells her stories with forceful, self-deprecating humor. Topics include what to call body parts, childbirth as she lived it and the stigma surrounding abortion. She also calls for a fifth wave of feminism that answers the awkwardness of modern womanhood by pointing at it and laughing. It won Book of the Year at the 2011 Galaxy National Book Awards and had sold over a million copies by July 2014.
