Set in an unnamed country that resembles Pakistan, the author's home country, Mohsin Hamid's third novel is told in the second person and never gives its protagonist a name. He starts out as a poor boy from a rural farming family and moves to the city, where he studies, takes an interest in politics and sets out in search of wealth. Running alongside that ambition is his attachment to a pretty girl. Hamish Hamilton and Riverhead Books brought the novel out in Britain and America in 2013.
