About the book
A murdered woman lies face down in a bath of acid in a rundown New York hotel, her features erased, in Terry Hayes's debut novel. The killing follows a book written by Pilgrim, codename of a former head of a secret US intelligence unit who vanished into anonymous retirement. NYPD detective Ben Bradley uses that same book to find him. Behind the case looms a faceless man who plans to kill on a vast scale for his God. Hayes, a former journalist and screenwriter, won Thriller and Crime Novel of the Year at the 2014 Specsavers National Book Awards.
Humanisation founder Cat Williams-Treloar calls it a close second favourite, a gift from a friend living in the Middle East, and was struck by its intricacy, its empathy and the human side of conflict it shows.

Cat Williams-Treloar (Founder/Humanisation)
A close second favourite is "I am Pilgrim" by Terry Hayes. I was gifted this book from a close friend who was living in the Middle East. I was blown away by the intricacies, empathy and human angle of conflict. I hadn't walked in someone else's shoes like that for a very long time.
