About the book
The question of how women with demanding careers and families actually spend their time is one Laura Vanderkam answers with data rather than anecdotes. She collected hour-by-hour logs covering 1,001 days lived by women earning at least $100,000 a year, and studied how they used the 168 hours in each week. The logs undercut the belief that such women must give up sleep, marriage, time with children or a social life: they worked less and slept more than they had thought, and still found time for exercise, date nights and lunches with friends. Vanderkam also describes their strategies, such as split work shifts and counting shared breakfasts as family time.
Cal Newport read an advance copy and called it excellent, describing it as a look at how successful women handle the tension between professional and family life.

I recently read an advance copy of Laura Vanderkam’s excellent new book, I Know How She Does It, which tackles the topic of how successful women manage the tension between professional and family life.
