About the book
A collection of incidents and anecdotes from the Civil War by David Dixon Porter. Now free of copyright in the United States, it circulates in facsimile reprints taken from library copies of the original, which can keep old stamps and notations.
Ryan Holiday named it in his Best Book Recommendations of 2012 as one of the obscure or unusual books about the war that he loves.

Ryan Holiday (Founder/Brass Check)
In terms of obscure or unusual books related to the war, I love Incidents and Anecdotes of the Civil War by Admiral David Porter (1885) and Wicked River: The Mississippi When It Last Ran Wild by Lee Sandlin (plus his WWII article which is the best essay I’ve ever read).
