Physicist Albert-László Barabási introduces network science to general readers, arguing that cells, corporations and social circles share an underlying order and obey simple laws. The book is built from fifteen chapters, each called a link, which move through random networks, six degrees of separation, small worlds, hubs and connectors, the 80/20 rule and the way the rich get richer. Barabasi applies these models to the spread of viruses and fads, the fragmented web, the map of life and the network economy, and also to terrorism and to how vulnerable the Internet is. First published in 2002, it sold more than 70,000 copies over fourteen printings and was chosen as one of that year's best business books.
