About the book

A life told through letters is what Freeman Dyson offers here, as the subtitle An Autobiography Through Letters makes clear. Library catalogs file it under the biography of physicists, and the record gives no further description of its contents.

Paul Graham called it wonderful, saying that collections of letters are rarely very good but that this one reads as well as an autobiography or better, and is about a very interesting man.

Freeman Dyson's Maker of Patterns is a wonderful book. Books of letters aren't usually very good, but this is as good as an autobiography, if not better. And of a very interesting man.
