The third volume of the March graphic novel trilogy continues civil rights leader John Lewis's own account of the movement, written by Lewis with Andrew Aydin and illustrated by Nate Powell. By the fall of 1963, Lewis chairs the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee while white supremacists step up obstruction and terror, a sympathetic president is killed, and Black citizens across the South are still kept from voting. Lewis and other young activists launch Mississippi Freedom Summer, the Freedom Vote and a televised fight over the Democratic Party, even as strategic disputes divide the movement. The trilogy began when Lewis told Aydin about a 10-cent comic book that shaped his belief in nonviolence, Martin Luther King and the Montgomery Story.

Tim Cook was reported to have said, while introducing John Lewis at Apple headquarters, that he hoped everyone would read the March books and that they would one day be required reading in schools.
