About the book
Elizabeth Willard Thames tells how she and her husband, Nate, two young urban professionals worn down by nine-to-five jobs, saved as much as they could so they could retire early and become homesteaders in rural Vermont. In 2014 they were still in the rat race; in less than three years they had reached financial independence, and they now live with their young daughters on a 66-acre homestead in the Vermont woods. Thames treats frugality as a conscious choice to live below one's means rather than a story of hardship, and argues that what it brings is the freedom that comes with financial security. She also rejects the cultural promise that a good life can be bought.
Cal Newport, who interviewed Thames for his book on digital minimalism and found the conversation fascinating, recommended it.

Cal Newport (Author)
Liz Thames of Frugalwoods fame, recently published her first book: Meet the Frugalwoods: Achieving Financial Independence Through Simple Living. It tells the story of how she and her husband Nate left a busy life in Cambridge, MA, to live simply but richly on a 66-acre homestead in Vermont. I recently interviewed Liz for my upcoming book on digital minimalism, and was fascinated by the conversation. I recommend both her blog and book.
