About the book
Historian Jennifer Burns wrote the first full biography of Milton Friedman to draw on archival sources, setting him beside John Maynard Keynes as one of the two most influential economists of the twentieth century. She explains his work on why dentists earn less than doctors, on the importance of the money supply, on inflation, and on the limits of government planning and stimulus. Burns traces his collaborations with women economists such as Anna Schwartz, his dealings with Federal Reserve chairman Arthur Burns and Treasury secretary George Shultz, and his direct part in policymaking, and places him at the centre of modern American conservatism. It was a finalist for the Hayek Book Prize.
Tyler Cowen included it on his list of the best non-fiction books of 2023.
