About the book
Set in medieval Germany, Hermann Hesse's novel begins at a Catholic monastery school, where the bright young pupil Goldmund forms a close friendship with Narcissus, a gifted teacher only a few years apart from him in age. One day, while gathering herbs in the fields, Goldmund meets a Romani woman, and the encounter convinces him that monastic life is not his calling. With his friend's help he leaves the cloister for a wandering life. Through the two friends, Hesse sets nature against science and logic, and follows a wanderer's search for himself. The novel has also appeared in English as Death and the Lover, and a later English version, translated by Leila Vennewitz, reached the shortlist of the Schlegel-Tieck Prize.
Andrew Huberman described it as a novel about how reason and emotion are woven together in the mind, and urged people to read it.

In Herman Hesse's book, I don't know if you read "Narcissus and Goldmund," it's about these elements of the logical, rational mind and the emotional mind and how those are woven together. If people haven't read it, they should.
