Dan Miller challenges the view of work as merely a way to pay for weekends, a necessary evil or a curse from God. He quotes Adam Smith, who wrote The Wealth of Nations, warning that a life of repetitive tasks leaves a person dull and ignorant, and he points to workers let go after years of loyal service, industries shaken by outsourcing and new technology, and long commutes. Against that, Miller argues that people of any age and in any line of work can bring the excitement of their days off to their jobs, and that work can reflect their best selves as a true calling. His advice covers both reshaping a current job and launching a new career.
