About the book

Before a huge new exhibition can open at New York's Museum of Natural History, a string of visitors are killed in its dark hallways and hidden rooms, and the autopsies suggest the killer is not human. The museum's directors press ahead with a celebratory gala anyway. Graduate student Margo Green sets out to learn who or what is responsible. Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child's 1995 novel, a horror story and techno-thriller, touches on genetic manipulation and takes a critical view of museums and their place in science. It is the first Special Agent Pendergast novel and became the basis of the film The Relic.

Cal Newport counted it among the top thrillers of the 1990s and, rereading it for Halloween, was glad to find it still held up.

Cal Newport (Author)

One of the best thrillers of the 1990s. I re-read this book in honor of Halloween this year (but didn't finish until November) and was pleased to find that it held up.
