Ellen Pao tells the story behind her 2015 lawsuit against Kleiner Perkins, the venture capital firm she sued over discrimination and retaliation aimed at women and other underrepresented groups. The daughter of immigrants, she earned several Ivy League degrees and worked at startups before Kleiner recruited her in 2005. There, she writes, women and people of color were left out of key meetings and email threads, CEO dinners and networking trips, while male executives undercut or took over their work. Pao refused to settle and lost the suit. She also describes her time as chief executive of reddit, where she banned revenge porn and unauthorized nude photos, and the founding of Project Include with seven other women tech leaders.

Eric Ries included it in his Quora answer listing his top 10 business books. Audrey Russo, chief executive of the Pittsburgh Technology Council, also named it among the books she suggests to young people interested in her career path.
