About the book
Jake Brown collects behind-the-scenes accounts of how producer Rick Rubin made hit albums with artists as different as Johnny Cash, Slayer, Run DMC, Weezer, the Beastie Boys, Jay Z, the Dixie Chicks and Metallica. Brown follows Rubin from his early-1980s days as DJ Double R and the founding of Def Jam Records with Russell Simmons in an NYU dorm room, through his move into independent label work in the early 1990s, when he signed and produced Johnny Cash and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, to his time as co-head of Columbia Records. Rubin's work with his artists earned him seven Grammys, among them Producer of the Year in 2007.
David Senra drew up a reading list for his Founders Podcast episode The Singular Life of Rick Rubin, and it is on it.
