The Secret Life of Plants
a Fascinating Account of the Physical, Emotional, and Spiritual Relations Between Plants and Man
About the book
Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird document disputed experiments that claim to show plants can feel and can communicate with other creatures, humans included. Among them are tests that wire plants to a polygraph, a method pioneered by Cleve Backster, along with claims about how plants respond to human care and to music. The authors summarize the work of Jagadish Chandra Bose, Corentin Louis Kervran and George Washington Carver, and discuss farming methods and philosophies built on these findings. Botanists such as Arthur Galston criticized it for promoting pseudoscience. It became the basis of a 1979 documentary film directed by Walon Green, with a soundtrack by Stevie Wonder.
It appears among the books SOSV general partner Bill Liao named in an interview.
