Chuck Klosterman arranges eighteen comedic essays on popular culture like tracks on a CD, with short interludes in between. Published by Scribner in 2003, the collection takes on The Sims, MTV's The Real World, Billy Joel's Glass Houses, a Guns N' Roses tribute band, Saved by the Bell, the Celtics and Lakers rivalry of the 1980s, the Dixie Chicks and Star Wars. One essay gives a short history of the cereal industry, noting Kellogg's religious beginnings, and supplies the Cocoa Puffs in the title. Others look at When Harry Met Sally, how films like The Matrix and Memento treat reality, media bias and the Left Behind series. Klosterman also wrote the heavy metal memoir Fargo Rock City.
