About the book

In the view of John J. Ratey and Eric Hagerman, aerobic exercise physically remodels the brain, and raising the heart rate can ease stress, lift mood, fight memory loss and sharpen the intellect. Ratey, a psychiatrist, gathers research on the link between mind and body and presents exercise as a defense against conditions from Alzheimer's and depression to addiction, ADD, aggression and menopause. Among the case studies is a fitness program in the school district of Naperville, Illinois, whose 19,000 students placed first in the world on science test scores. It was published in 2008.

Andrew Huberman called it a popular and quite good book by his friend and colleague John Ratey, a Harvard Medical School psychiatrist, and said it still holds up years after it came out.

But one of the more popular books that I think is quite good is from my friend and colleague John Ratey, who's a psychiatrist at Harvard Medical School; that's R-A-T-E-Y. He wrote the book "Spark" a few years back, and I think it's still very relevant.
