It deliberately skips the concerns of venture-backed companies, such as pitching investors and raising money, and assumes a founder without millions in the bank, with no plan to move to a startup hub and no wish to work 70-hour weeks for stock options. Walling does not dismiss venture funding, but argues that most people are not in a position to pursue it. Leaving aside the technical skills developers already have, the book concentrates on marketing, the part of a startup that most developers avoid: finding an idea, testing it before building and getting the product to customers.
