Storms of My Grandchildren

Climate scientist James Hansen's first book argues that burning fossil fuels is pushing Earth toward a climatic point of no return, putting millions of species and humanity at risk. The title refers to the ferocious weather he expects the next generation to face if fossil fuel use continues unchanged. Hansen dismisses most political responses as greenwashing and sets a goal of 350 ppm or less of atmospheric carbon dioxide. He calls for phasing out coal plant emissions and improving forestry and farming, favors taxing carbon and paying the revenue back to citizens as a dividend instead of cap and trade, and backs nuclear power while opposing geoengineering. Hansen had advised Al Gore on the science of An Inconvenient Truth.

Al Gore endorsed it, predicting that history will see Hansen as the scientist with the strongest and most consistent voice for intelligent action to protect the planet's environment.
