Story

Robert McKee, known for a Story Structure seminar with more than 35,000 graduates and alumni such as Quincy Jones, Julia Roberts and John Cleese, puts the ideas he teaches into book form. He treats screenwriting as a matter of form rather than formula, beginning from basic units such as the beat, the scene, the sequence and the act climax. From the standard three-act design he moves to films built in two, seven or even eight acts, and also covers theme, setting and atmosphere, the gap between character and characterization, irony and image systems. Drawing on more than 100 films, McKee follows the work from concept to final manuscript, with attention to the bond between a story and its audience.
