About the book
Leonard Mlodinow, who wrote The Drunkard's Walk and worked with Stephen Hawking on The Grand Design, surveys the new science of the unconscious. Every judgment and perception, he explains, works on two levels: a conscious one people are aware of and an unconscious one hidden from them. Over the past two decades researchers have built new tools to probe those hidden processes, and their findings show that perception, memory, behavior and social judgment depend far more on subliminal processes than on conscious ones. Mlodinow traces how this shapes relationships with family, friends and colleagues, choices of politicians and investments, and memories of one's own past. It won a PEN Literary Award.
Ray Dalio called it excellent and quoted Mlodinow's point that social IQ, more than IQ, is what ought to set humans apart from other species.

Leonard Mlodinow, in his excellent book Subliminal, writes, “We usually assume that what distinguishes us [from other species] is IQ. But it is our social IQ that ought to be the principal quality that differentiates us.”
