About the book
Judy Blume's coming-of-age novel centers on two very different friends. In the summer of 1977, Caitlin Somers, beautiful, reckless and popular, picks shy, intellectual Victoria Leonard, known as Vix, as her friend. She draws Vix from New Mexico into her sprawling, privileged family and their summers on Martha's Vineyard, where the two become summer sisters. Years on, Caitlin calls Vix at her job in New York with news: she is getting married on the Vineyard and begs Vix to be her maid of honor. Vix decides to go, wanting to understand what happened during their last summer together. Its heavy sexual content made it a novel for adults, not for the younger readers who made Blume popular.
