About the book
The raw-food advocate David Wolfe profiles a set of nutrient-dense plant foods he calls superfoods, among them goji berries, maca, hempseed, raw cacao beans, spirulina and bee products. He presents them as sources of clean protein, enzymes, vitamins, antioxidants, minerals and healthy fats and oils, along with essential fatty and amino acids. Each food receives a detailed profile accompanied by recipes, and the guide is illustrated. Wolfe argues that superfoods have a central role to play in nutrition, health, beauty and sustainable farming, and in changing diet and lifestyle more broadly. North Atlantic Books issued the volume in 2009.
Ultrarunner Robert Hajnal, founder of Trail Running Academy, picked it because he thinks of the body as an engine whose main fuel is healthy food.
