Chad Harbach's 2011 novel is set on the Lake Michigan shore at Westish, a small college where shortstop Henry Skrimshander looks bound for the major leagues. When one routine throw goes badly wrong, five lives change course. Henry battles a self-doubt that endangers his future. Guert Affenlight, the college president and a longtime bachelor, falls unexpectedly in love; Henry's roommate Owen Dunne becomes caught up in a risky affair; team captain Mike Schwartz sees that he has advanced Henry's career at the cost of his own; and Pella, Guert's daughter, comes back to Westish after leaving a failed marriage. It earned a nomination for the Guardian First Book Award.

In an interview about her reading habits, Kapwing co-founder Julia Enthoven named it as a novel she had enjoyed recently.
