About the book

Written by philosopher-poet Mark Nepo a decade after he went through cancer, the book is a daybook of meditations meant for people facing life-threatening situations and for everyone else. Nepo describes it as a kind of spiritual first aid kit, resting on the premise that people everywhere already hold a wisdom of their own and need help reaching it. Drawing on many traditions, its entries reflect on pain, wonder, love, spirit and friendship, and return to the idea that the life being lived, if lived authentically, can become the life one wants. First published in 2000, it found a far wider audience in 2010 when Oprah Winfrey chose it as one of her favorite things.

Mel Robbins said it has made a difference to her that she struggles to put into words, and that she has read its short daily meditations, one or two pages each, since 2016.

This book is so meaningful to me. I'm struggling to even find the words to explain the profound difference this book has made. First of all, I've been reading this since 2016, and one of the things that I love about it is it's just short daily meditations that are one to two pages long
