About the book
Desmond Tutu and his daughter, the Reverend Mpho Tutu, set out a manual on forgiveness. Chairing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa taught the archbishop much about the subject. Many expected the end of apartheid to bring a bloodbath, yet the new nation took the harder road of confession, forgiveness and reconciliation. After long reflection on forgiveness, Tutu describes a fourfold path: admitting a wrong and naming the harm, telling the story and witnessing the anguish, asking for and granting forgiveness, then renewing or releasing the relationship. Tutu, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, argues that walking this path is the way out of an endless cycle of pain and retribution.
Brene Brown, who calls forgiveness the hardest subject she has studied in two decades, said it could change individual lives and the wider culture.

Brene Brown (Author & Researcher)
Of all of the topics I've studied over the past two decades, forgiveness has been the most complex and difficult. Here, Bishop Desmond Tutu and his daughter take us on a journey that has the potential to change lives and the broader culture.
