About the book

Samuel P. Huntington expands his 1993 Foreign Affairs article, whose title ended in a largely ignored question mark, into a fuller, documented argument that the central and most dangerous conflicts of post-Cold War politics would be between groups from different civilizations. As cultural differences replace ideological ones, he contends, world politics is reconfigured. He points to East Asia's economic rise and the population surge in Muslim countries as forces that challenge Western dominance and sharpen disputes over nuclear proliferation, immigration, human rights and democracy. Huntington calls clashes between civilizations the greatest threat to world peace, yet sees an order based on civilizations as the best safeguard against war. A later edition adds a foreword by Zbigniew Brzezinski.

Bogdan Savonea, CEO of TPS Engage, named it in his interview with The CEO Library among three books that shaped the first part of his life, his choice of university and his career until his late 20s.
