About the book
Comedian and actress Tiffany Haddish, star of Girls Trip, collects personal essays about her childhood in a very poor part of South Central Los Angeles. She learned to survive by making people laugh, so that classmates would let her copy their homework and the other foster children she lived with would not beat her up. She earned money as a paid school mascot and as a hype woman at Bar Mitzvahs, and found in comedy something she could do for a living. The essays range from revenge on an ex-boyfriend to handling new fame with a broke person's mindset. It became a New York Times best seller.
